YES, that’s exactly how I felt to the extent that I pushed all my body-hugging clothes to the back of my closet.

It just dawned on me that it was time to LOSE BELLY FAT. But how do I go about it? That was my biggest concern. Of course, I turned to the internet for research and I gathered THE FASTEST WAYS TO LOSE BELLY FAT which I’m going to share with you.
Before I do that, I’ll like to first of all learn more about belly fat.
WHAT IS BELLY FAT?
Belly fat is simply the collection of fat around the abdomen. Belly fat looks like this.
WHY BELLY FAT IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.
CAUSES OF BELLY FAT.
The fat cells around the abdomen attract Cortisol more than other areas of your body.
When you’re stressed, the hormone Cortisol is released into the body which off-sets how fat is being deposited into the body.
That’s why you’re encouraged to sleep more when you’re trying to lose weight (Will be explained later in detail).
Increased Cortisol = Increased Fat
Decreased Metabolism = Increased Belly Fat
In addition, Cortisol prevents the Thyroid hormone from functioning well. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the Thyroid hormone regulates metabolism. (Food breakdown)
2. Lack of Adequate Sleep:
As introduced above, lack of enough sleep (5 hours and above) causes abdominal fat deposition.
The reason being that during sleep apart from the growth and repair, hormones are being regulated.
Lack of sleep off-sets that balance and unregulated hormones will perform in different ways including abdominal fat deposition
3. Excess Sugar:
Sugar is one of the sources of energy for the body.
The amount of sugar consumed should be the same amount burned, but when there is an imbalance, excess sugar will be stored.
It’s not that eating sugar increases fat as many people say, but excess consumption of sugar without burning it is stored as fat
Sugar consumed = sugar burned
Increased sugar consumption + no exercise = fat stored.
4. Excess Beer Consumption:
Many articles say alcohol consumption causes weight gain, but I’m still to see the relationship between the two.
I’m certain that excess beer intake causes more fat storage as a beer is predominantly made up of Carbohydrates (energy which needs to be burned)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that alcohol doesn’t cause weight gain, but one thing I’m sure is that alcohol destroys the liver.
1-2 beers a day plus any form of activity wouldn’t hurt. But 3 beers and above is definitely a NO.
5. Lack of Exercise:
We all know that exercise is crucial to maintaining fitness and health.
However, with our busy schedules, exercising regularly could be difficult.

So which is the RIGHT DIET?
The right diet should be made up of 30% Protein, 40% water, 20% for (vitamins, minerals, and Fiber), 5% Fat, and 5% Carbohydrates.
I know we’re not in a Maths class, so to summarise it, I’ll say that a Healthy Diet should HAVE ALL THE RAINBOW COLORS (if possible).
By this, I mean that A Colorful meal = A Healthy Meal
I say this because for a meal to have all the colors of the rainbow means that you must have included all the 7 Classes of food required for a meal to be considered healthy.
Are you surprised why I included fat in your healthy diet when you’re trying to burn fat?
It’s because NOT ALL FATS ARE BAD. There are the GOOD FATS (HDL- High-Density Lipoprotein) and the BAD FATS (LDL- Low-Density Lipoprotein)
Protein is 30% because Protein makes you full fast, helps burn fats more and encourages muscle repair and growth.
Water is 40% because WATER HAS NO CALORIES. You can drink as much water as you like, but it will be eliminated from your body as urine.
Carbohydrates are converted into sugar which provides the energy needed for the daily functioning of the body. However, only 5% of your meal should be made up of Carbohydrates because excess Carbohydrates is stored in the body as fats.

7) Your Genes:
Genes increase the risk of one getting a “pot belly”.
If your parents and/or relatives had big bellies, then the chances you’re going to have one is greater.
However, this doesn’t mean that you should have a huge belly, it just means that you have to put in some efforts to avoid it.
According to a study, women who have reached Menopause (a time when the monthly bleeding stops; usually begins 45years and above) experienced more fat deposition around their abdomen.
The reason being that the estrogen ( one of the hormones which regulate the monthly flow) decreases causing fat to be deposited in the abdomen instead of the thighs and hips.

9) Trans Fats Consumption:
Wondering why I’m talking about fats again after having already talked about it in diets?
That’s because this particular type of fats (TRANS FATS) NEEDS TO BE AVOIDED LIKE PLAGUE if possible.
Trans fats very unstable fats made stable by adding hydrogen.
Trans fats are used to extend the life of SHELF FOOD such as chips, popcorn, baking powder, and much more.
The problem with Trans fats according to Healthline is that it causes inflammation which may lead to heart disease, insulin resistance, and other diseases.

Changes in body estrogen levels cause fat to be deposited around the thighs and abdomen in preparation for the coming of the baby.

4) Be Less Stressed.
We earlier saw that Stress was one of the causes of a pot belly, so it’s only logical that reducing your stress load will work towards reducing your pouch.
10 ways to reduce your stress levels.
- Take deep-breathing exercises (breathe in and out).
- Listen to music
- Light exercise like walking, jogging, etc
- Meditate (live in the present rather than the future or past)
- Be thankful for all your achievements.
- Picture positive memories like the time you spent at the beach, party with friends, or holidays with the family.
- Don’t worsen your stress by smoking, binge eating or drinking.
- Talk to someone. The saying goes “A problem shared is half solved”

5) Get Enough Rest.
As explained above, lack of sleep is one of the causes of increased abdominal fat deposition.
Enough sleep will regulate the hormones in your body preventing fat from being deposited around the abdomen.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends the sleep time for adults to be 7-9 hours.
Use this table to know the recommended sleep time for newborns, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged children, teenagers, and seniors.
6) Drink Little to No Fruit Juice
Fruit juice contains large amounts of added sugars.
RECALL FROM ABOVE:
Sugar consumed = sugar burned
Increased sugar consumption + no exercise = fat stored.
Which simply means sugar produces energy for the body and excess sugar is stored as fat.
Therefore, avoiding added sugars from fruit juice, sodas, and iced tea will greatly help you lose tummy fat.
Consider drinking plain water, lemon/lime solution (great detox), and smoothies.

- 1/2 cup of milk (any type)
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup each of mangoes, strawberries, and blueberries
- 3-4 ice cubes
7) Don’t Eat Foods That Have Trans Fats.
Trans fats are unstable fats which have been made stable by adding hydrogen to them.
These trans fats are added to most shelf products such as popcorn and chips to prolong their expiration date.
The consequence of eating trans fats is tummy fat and heart disease amongst others.
Avoiding these foods will greatly help to reduce abdominal fats, heart disease, and other diseases.
8) Don’t Drink Excess Beers.
Beers are mostly made up of carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates in excess will be stored as fat.
Therefore, it is advisable to drink 1-2 beers or less a day rather than 3+ beers.
If it’s possible, avoid beers as a whole and drink red wine, lime/ lemon water or smoothies.
